Pretty much everyone loves Banff and I’m no exception. The first time you visit, you do all of the main tourist things especially going to the top of Sulpher mountain. Did you know you can actually climb to the top instead of taking the gondola? Warning; it’s about 6km UPHILL so it isn’t for casual tourists. The view is amazing especially if you can manage to get there early in the morning before the buses start coming into town.
Banff is a very easy drive from Calgary and its' easily doable from Lethbridge and Edmonton if you give yourself enough time. Always check traffic because it can really slow down near Canmore.
After you visit Banff a few times you can start to appreciate the less touristy parts of the town. If you wander even a block off the main strip you can stroll quiet streets and enjoy the serenity of the scenery. Walking the Tunnel Mountain path to the Banff Centre is a great way to get in some moderate hiking without needing any real gear. There are a lot of concerts at the Banff Centre, too. A lot of it is opera and classical but there are sometimes Canadian bands doing a show.
The Banff Springs Hotel is a must-see in all of the travel webpages and I agree that its totally worth going to see. But unless you’re interested in a kind of historical type of decoration I don’t know its for you. I stayed at the hotel once (not business for a wedding) and it had lace fabrics on the TV stand and night stand. Very nice not tacky decorations but not really the type of style that I think a lot of younger people are interested in.
I've never played on the tennis courts but I did see some in town. Running is pretty easy to feel inspired because of the scenery. Just be sure to factor in the altitude or else you will be huffing the whole time. Or maybe that was just me!!!
Banff seems to be getting more and more popular every year so any trips really need a hotel reservation to be safe. Its one of the only places I book more than a couple of days in advance. Can’t wait to go back!!!
